"This is a complete fucking disaster, you know that," the warden of Irongate prison snarled.
"Yes, sir," his assistant nodded.
"Arvin Grey was one of the most important prisoners we have. Had!" The warden ranted. "You know what the papers are calling him? The last major crime boss in the Republic. You know what tomorrow's top story is going to be? That the last major crime boss in the Republic was stabbed thirteen times while he was supposed to be awaiting trial in a secure cell in the Republic's most secure prison! How the hell did this happen?!"
"We don't know, sir," his assistant said. "He was moved into the yard with the general population. Obviously, we are looking into how that happened."
"You better find out!" the warden barked. "Blessed Saint Jacob... when the Crown Prosecutor hears Grey's dead, he's going to rip us both new arseholes."
"He's not dead," the prison doctor announced.
"What do you mean he's not dead?" The warden snapped. "I have the report right here. He was stabbed thirteen times. He's got holes in organs I've never even heard of. Of course he's dead."
"Well, your dead prisoner regained consciousness twenty minutes ago," the doctor said. "I told him he was lucky to be alive, and he started laughing."
"Laughing? He's laughing?" The warden blinked.
"Yeah. You know what he said to me?" the doctor continued. "He said it wasn't luck. He said he's cursed. That he's not to die until he faces justice."
"Cursed, my left nut. Put guards on the infirmary," the warden snapped. "I don't want Mr. Grey to so much as get a splinter on our watch from here on out... and triple check the security arrangements for the other one!"

"Mallory Four has been transferred to the women's wing of Irongate Prison," the woman in red said.
"That is unfortunate," Mr. Hand replied. "Her sacrifice for the cause will not be forgotten."
"A pointless sacrifice," the woman in red said bitterly. "We've lost the Moonwood site. The Project..."
"The Project has suffered a significant setback," the man in the shadows said calmly. "However, we have suffered setbacks before. Researcher Book, what is our status?"
"As we speak, the Senior Researcher Key is evaluating Site Two," Researcher Book replied confidently.

"Hello, Doctor Key. I'm Molly Prescott. I'm the senior engineer here. This is my associate, Dylan Sigworth," Molly said warmly. "Welcome to Rangerville."
"Don't worry Doctor," Dylan added with a grin. "Despite whatever rumors you may have heard, we haven't had an interdimensional alien invasion here for at least five years."
"How very reassuring," Dr. Key smiled. "Oh, this is my assistant, Mallory. We are very much looking forward to working with you."
