"Have you ever felt like you're just waiting for your life to start?"
"Uh, not really, no," Knox replied.
Sitting in the lounge of the Caboose, Evergreen Harbor's one decent bar, Lux Demarco shook her head. She wasn't sure she'd expected Knox to understand.
"I mean life is, like, Life," Knox continued. "It's happening all around you, Demarco. You just gotta look up and see it."
Whenever she hung around with him, she was 'Demarco.' It saved confusion. Lux and Knox sounded too similar, especially after a few beers, and Knox had a kind of seniority, having lived in the Harbor longer.
"You know what I see?" she complained. "I see me working at a dead-end job..."
"That's 'cause you work for a soulless mega-corporation that pillages the environment, exploits its employees and sells cheap products," Knox interjected.
"Well, some of us have to pay rent," she said.
"Anyway, I've got a dead-end job," she continued. "I live in this dead-end town..."
"You know, if people would just take the neighborhood initiatives seriously," Knox started.
"Knox, would you just let me bitch for a minute!"
"Where was I?"
"Dead-end job, dead-end town," Knox offered.
"Right," Demarco sighed. "I mean, it's like I'm just waiting. I've never done anything..."
"What about that time you went into the City and got that music star's autograph?"
"Ok, that was awesome," she admitted, "but it's not really a life-goal kinda thing."
"I've got no relationships," Demarco sighed.
"Oh, so that's what's bothering you," Knox said sagely. "The 'Annie' thing."
"Yes, OK, that's bothering me," Demarco groaned. "I have a crush on my next-door neighbor and I have no idea where I stand with her."
"I though you said you guys were hitting it off," Knox said. "Didn't you say you even hooked up once... which I would be totally down to hearing more about. You know, to help you process things..."
"Yes, and I never should have told you about that, pervert," Demarco snarled. "Anyway, that's the problem. We hooked up... and then nothing. I don't know if I messed up or..."
"See, that's why you should tell me the details," Knox grinned. "So I can use my mad love skills to tell you where you went wrong."
"Seriously, Demarco, I think you need to clear your head," Knox said. "Take some You time. Get out and breathe the Air... head up to the mountains for the weekend and just Be in nature."
"You know, that's actually not a horrible idea," she said.
"I am wise beyond my years," Knox smiled.
